1st Community Friday Flag on Fri., 8/28

Families are Welcome to Join Us!

Families are welcome to join us for our first Community Friday Flag this Friday morning!

Friday Flag Assembly
  • Families are not to go to the blacktop or playground before school or before the assembly begins.
  • Students should drop off backpacks and belongings at their classrooms before school.
  • TK and Kindergarten students and students in Rooms 3, 8, and 9 will go directly to their classrooms at the start of the day and will walk to Friday Flag with their teachers.
  • Families are asked to wait in the courtyard until invited to the blacktop by school staff once all classes are seated.
  • Please keep walkways/pathways clear so students and staff can get to the blacktop safely.
  • Once all students are settled, families will be invited onto the blacktop and may gather near the playground structure by the flag. See the image below.
  • Please avoid gathering near the 5th, TK, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes so students and staff have plenty of space.
  • Please avoid approaching your child during the assembly. A smile and a wave are always welcome!
  • Families with younger children: please note that the playground structure is closed to visitors during Friday Flag.
  • At the conclusion of the assembly, visitors will be dismissed before students are released.
  • Adults are not to use the student restrooms. There is a visitor restroom by the office if needed.

Thank you for helping us keep Friday Flag safe and enjoyable for everyone. We look forward to having you join us!

September is Attendance Awareness Month: Why Attendance Matters!

Help Your Child in School by Building Good Attendance Habits

  • Too many absences in preschool and elementary school can cause children to struggle socially and academically.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Missing 10% of school (2 days each month) can make it harder to learn to read and do basic math.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school — and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool and through elementary school so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important. -Attendance Works

What You Can Do to Support Good Attendance

Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
  • Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up.
  • Monitor your child’s absences.
  • Try to schedule nonurgent medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • If you are concerned that your child may have a contagious illness, call your school nurse or health-care provider for advice. Ask the teacher for ideas to support missed learning time.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

Review Drop-Off Pick Up Safety Reminders!

  1. There is NO parent/ visitor parking in our staff parking lot.  If you must park your vehicle, please park along the street in designated areas only.  Do not park in our loading zones during pick-up or drop-off times (anywhere inside the drop-off circle).  Do not park or pick-up in red zones/cone zones.
  2. Always obey the 5 mph rule and be cell phone free when in the pick-up zone!
  3. Pull forward as far as possible in the car line and wait until the staff member or volunteer clears you to drop off/ pick up your child.  During pick-up, if you find yourself at the front of the line and your child is not visible, you must pull out of the lot and circle around by carefully turning left onto Carson Lane.
  4. There is only ONE entrance to the lot at Carson and Kit.  Do not enter through the exit.  Do not exit through the entrance.     Do not block the crosswalk.
  5. Carpool whenever possible; this helps to alleviate congestion.
  6. Children are to exit the vehicle on the passenger side, nearest to the curb.  This ensures that children are not walking between/ behind cars.
  7. Parents are not to get out of the car to assist. Have child safety locks turned off.  Do not pack items in the trunk; this significantly slows down the process. The teacher/volunteer stationed in the Pick-Up/ Drop-Off area will help your child exit/ enter your vehicle if needed.
  8. Always use the crosswalk supported by the crossing guard. Do not motion for your child to run through traffic/cross the street to your parked car.  Hold onto your young child’s hand when walking across the crosswalks.
  9. Be respectful of the teachers/ volunteers who serve as yard duty supervisors in the lot.  Accidents happen.  It is our collective responsibility to ensure everyone’s safety, including your child’s.  No compromise is worth the potential risks involved.

This information can be found in the Jensen Ranch Handbook and is part of the annual registration process. It is your responsibility to know the drop-off and pick-up rules & to discuss these rules with your children & anyone who drops your children off or picks them up.
